As I write this I am easily still recovering from Saturday. Alesso’s 21st birthday celebration lived up to its billing as one of the biggest parties of the summer. Otto Knows started off the listed lineup and was great, obviously the crowd belted out all of “Million Voices”, which was mashed with One Republic’s “Apologize” (Thomas Gold bootleg). His remix of “Kick Out The Epic Motherf**cker is going to get major play from the top dj’s and the download link is listed at the bottom of this post.
For whatever reason, Arty only got an hour long set which was just wrong. He gets the party going into an absolute frenzy. After this I could not be more excited for his set at Identity Fest later this month. “Around the World” and “Trio” were key but honestly dropping Tiesto’s “Maximal Crazy” was the wildest part of the night, the crowd was insane. To be clear, if you get the chance to see Arty, do it.
Alesso came on at 10 for a two hour set and everyone was primed and ready by this point. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love Alesso and thoroughly enjoyed his set, but I don’t think I was surprised once. It seems to me like he mailed it in and played a very recycled track list. His productions are among my favorites and I had a great time, but the more discerning ear probably would not have been as pleased. His new songs, particularly “Clash”, are top notch bangers and will make major waves when they are released but overall I left wishing he had pulled more surprises because I know he is capable of them.
All in all it was a great day that reminds me why I love EDM so much. That atmosphere, in terms of energy, and the positive vibes flowing throughout the island, is flat out unmatched compared to anything else I have ever seen. Everyone is there because they love the music and nothing else really matters.
P.S. Ya I know the videos aren’t Alesso songs but you get the idea
