Electro/House
Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman have been making moves in the industry recently and they remix EDX and Nadia Ali’s track “This Is Your Life” at a great time. The drop is quite a bit heavier than their previous releases, but it definitely shows a new side of them that displays their depth. I’m personally a fan and the official track is supposed to drop in the next couple of weeks, so be on the lookout.

New Progressive House
Parisian progressive house staple, Michael Calfan, perhaps most famous for last year’s club filler “Ressurection”, which the mighty Swede Axwell donned with an outrageously banging remix, has become synonymous with suspense filled rising leads and overall well-polished clubby tracks is back to add a little shelf-life to “Momentum” by the Belgian trio comprised of Dimitri Vegas, Like Mike & Regi. “Momentum” plays on some incredibly catchy synth leads and was one of Miami Music Week’s biggest hits. I must have heard it 7 or 8 times at Ultra alone. But today the trio enlist the well defined club tuned hands of Michael Calfan to add a little flair and keep the track resonating in the minds of EDM enthusiasts everywhere. Honestly, if you can’t get moving to the melody driving this track you’re probably a dime short of a nickel. It’s just about as catchy as humanly possible and as soon as Calfan drips his swag all over the original he brings an acute dose of some serious euphoricness. I realize that “euphoricness” is probably not a word, but in this context I’d say Webster’s Dictionary could use an update. Not quite sure when we should be looking for a release on this one but I can tell you that it will be a Smash the House record and that it will be dropped sometime soon. Check back to HDM for all the necessary updates.

New Progressive House
So lately it seems that every music publication even slightly related to the EDM scene has gone out of their way to complain about the current state of the industry and its sudden eruption into the American mainstream, stating the convergence toward progressive house and electro as the arrival of satan or something like that. Okay maybe that’s not exactly what they’re all saying but as far as I can tell it seems to be the point they’re all driving toward since everyone and their mother has taken it upon themselves to remind all of us what house “used to be” and what it was like “when it was still good” because it seems they wanted it to stay underground forever. Well, I don’t care. I really don’t. I know what house used to be and I realize the direction it’s taken but I’m not ignorant to the fact that like everything else in life, music changes. There’s no doubt that the industry is becoming increasingly diluted with marginal talent and that its causing the guys at the top to become complacent with their work while sort of falling into a mold as producers because guess what, at the end of the day, all of us will still be paying top dollar to hit every major festival and we will love every second of it. One of the reasons this genre will stick around regardless of this convergence is because of the countless sub-genres that seem to pop up every day as well as talents like Michael Woods who refuse to be complacent. There’s no doubt this dude is producing within the confines of progressive and sometimes electro house, but his experience in the trancier realms of EDM before turning to the progressive side gives him a knack for unique production that always keeps his ish fresh. “No Access” and “Full Access” are both more electro house style bangers and his remix of Ferry Corsten’s “Live Forever” is god damn amazing. Today we’ve got another synthy progressive house gem in his remix of “Power & Control”. Great vocals, great leads and uncompromising mainstream appeal. Can’t knock that. Look for it to drop on July 9th.

New Progressive House
With the likes of Arty and Hard Rock Sofa the Russians have certainly been making waves in the EDM community as of late. With ‘Quasar’ and ‘The Edge’ popping up in just about every set imaginable its fair to say these guys are onto something. This mix is a great preview of what we are going to be hearing all summer with just about every upcoming track incorporated into this mix somewhere. Hard Rock Sofa’s upcoming banger with Swanky Tunes ‘Here We Go’ is previewed in this mix as well as ‘People of the Night’, AN21 & Max Vangeli’s upcoming collaboration with Tiesto which will be featured on their highly anticipated debut studio album.
